Welcome to Sturgis, "Olde Towne...New
Spirit!”
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Scott Smith,
the Mayor of Sturgis. I was elected mayor in June of 2001. My
wife is the former Laura Long from Sturgis. During my term as
mayor, I like to think that I have governed Sturgis as you, the
citizens, would have me to. Some of our accomplishments have included:
 |
Paved
the four main arteries leading into Sturgis |
 |
Formulated the
“Vision to Action Plan” |
 |
Built a park
pavilion |
 |
Expanded and
renovated the new park property and buildings |
 |
Built a new
RV park with complete hook-ups |
 |
Negotiated for
and received a $550,000 grant to merge the Craig Springs
Water System with the Town of Sturgis Water Department,
which included raising the existing water tank to a new
height of 185 feet |
We are proud of our
small town, which is home to unique shops, a bank, post office,
library, school, and many area churches.
Numerous activities
are scheduled throughout the year for you to participate in,
such as the Community-Wide Easter Egg Hunt, Summer League Programs,
Softball Tournaments, Fall Pee-Wee Football, Giant Garage Sale,
and, of course, our biggest event on the calendar - the “Sturgis
South” Motorcycle Rally, held the third weekend in August.
We welcome you to
use the Diane Jackson Memorial Park, with its pavilion, complete
with picnic tables, restrooms and showers; 40 RV hook-ups with
water, sewer and electricity; and baseball field for any of
your family and group events. Please call Sturgis Town Hall
at 662-465-7970 to reserve your date now to assure your spot
and use of these facilities.
We always welcome
new businesses and new residents to Sturgis. We like to think
we have a lot to offer: small-town life packed with a lot of
Southern hospitality, in a little place we call home.
